Millenáris Széllkapu Park függőkert

Millenáris Széllkapu Park Hanging Garden

The hanging garden of Millenáris Széllkapu Park is one of the most distinctive green façade projects in Central Europe. The appearance of the walk-through structure created within the park is shaped by the seasonal changes of the vegetation, making it a continuously transforming, living visual feature throughout the year.

The 4,500 m² installation covered with pre-grown vegetation is the largest structure of its kind in Central Europe. Measuring 230 metres in length and 19.3 metres in height, it provides an accessible connection between Millenáris and Széllkapu Park, while also defining the park’s southern edge and partially screening the neighbouring Mammut shopping centre.

One of the project’s greatest professional challenges was the need to pre-grow the plants directly onto wire mesh panels, a process that took a total of 18 months. Due to their unusual shape and bespoke dimensions, the on-site lifting and installation of the finished elements became one of the most complex aspects of the construction, requiring precise preparation and close coordination.

This project is particularly important to us, as the design and construction of the four-storey hanging garden marked a defining milestone in the founding of Green Wall Design Ltd. The successful collaboration of designers Andrea Balogh and Csaba Majoros, contractor Zoltán Czérna, and green façade builder Ferenc Szentkirályi-Tóth laid the foundation for our subsequent joint projects as well.
