Three years of planning, two years of careful plant cultivation and one year of construction work have resulted in one of the most unique green façades in Budapest, which we designed and built for Phase I of the Metrodom Green premium residential complex.

Creating a truly GREEN living environment was of paramount importance to the Metrodom Group. Professionally designed, spectacular and efficient, our green façade offers energy, environmental and aesthetic benefits at the same time.

The elements of the GWD FLEX system used on Metrodom Green include runner panels pre-grown on a temporary plastic trellis and planter boxes.

The runners, which climb up the exterior steel structure, are planted from the 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th floors. We chose strong, hardy species of plants that we grew for two years specifically for this building, planted them carefully and provided them with nutrients continuously from the moment of planting.

The planting boxes are filled with a special medium, and an automated irrigation system supplies the plants with nutrients. In line with the smart solutions of the house, the green façade can be controlled remotely, fine-tuning it to the weather conditions.

This living building envelope looks different each season, the building constantly changing as evergreen and deciduous plants sprout new shoots, bear fruit and change colour. We believe that in such an intensively built-up urban neighbourhood, vertical facades can make the urban environment more liveable.
